It was just a bit over 6 p.m. As the days became shorter during Autumn, the sun started to turn a dark orange. In a few hours it would be dark outside, and the moon could be already seen on the clear blue sky, waiting for the night to come, when it would outshine the sun. The air was a bit chilly, but the silent figure standing in a sea of grass. A gentle breeze brushed by him, but yet, he was still. He was wearing slightly baggy black pants, and a simple white shirt with his sleeves pulled up to his elbows. If one looked closer, a black, wing shaped insignia could be seen, etched into his collar. It was the crest of his family. In his hand was a simple wooden staff, made of beech. Nearby, under a great oak were his shoes, black like his pants. He stood with his right leg in front of him, taking on a stance taught to him by a true hero, for the old man was a hero in his eyes. His grandfather, a former soldier, and his instructor in the combat usage of staves. He held the simple weapon in front of himself, and sighed slowly before starting an elaborate combination of kicks, thrusts, and spins. For onlookers he might have looked like an idiot, but in his mind he was dispatching opponent after opponent, never once causing serious injuries, while disabling them in the most efficient ways possible.
He finished not a minute later, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. He has been training for 2 hours, trying to calm himself. He was informed that he was assigned to a lady by the prestigious Stella Fiore Academy. At first he was overjoyed, how he would be able to prove his worth at long last. He was pretty sure things would be a good, hoping his lady wouldn't be one of those stern know-it-all girls he met in the school. They were all stressed and they couldn't take a joke. They were too stern for him. The serious aura the place gave off was suffocating for him, but he just shrugged, and said to himself, that things will work out one way, or another. It didn't take half an hour for the information to settle in, and then he started feeling nervous.. What if he messed up? What is she was like those "ladies" back in his homeland? What if...?
Stop that! he yelled at himself mentally, and he was in the nearby park, training like crazy before he noticed he moved. It happened quite often when he was too stressed to think clearly.
Knowing the training was effective, he walked over to the oak, and sat down. He winced as he bent his left leg, knowing he was reckless, but he didn't care. He grinned happily, as he felt refreshed by the workout. He slowly put on his shoes, and tied his crimson tie before putting on his black coat. It was a simple design, with a white lining, but it was comfortable, and he didn't like clothing that restricted his movement. He picked up his cane, and observed the carvings on it. The handle was shaped like a wolf, the handiwork of his father. He got it half a year after he broke his knee, to help him move around. For a year it was nothing but a tool to help him move, but now he only needed it once a month or so.
He looked at his watch, and noticed it was already 6 p.m. Time surely passes by fast when one enjoys himself, he thought, before standing up with a wince, and grabbing the long wooden staff. He bought it a few months ago, when he got fed up with the equipment at campus. The procedure to get a single useful weapon was so long and boring, that one day he just left, and wandered in the park until he found a piece of beech. It took him the better part of that month to make it into the staff it was now, but it was worth it. It was far from beautiful, but it served its purpose, and he couldn't be happier, finally getting rid of the long wait before training. He started walking towards the path, but he could feel his knee failing him fast. He managed to reach a bench before collapsing on it.
"Seems like I'll stay a bit longer. At least I'll get to enjoy the scenery a bit longer, huh?" said Geor grinning all the while.

Looking up at the early evening sky Evangeline sighed softly. It was beginning to get dark and she knew she would have to head back to Stella Fiore soon but, she really didn’t want to. It was too stuffy in there sometimes, all the girls crowding around talking about shopping and pretty dresses. All she really wanted to do was sit down and read a good book, or talk to someone not completely self-obsessed. However it was very rare to find a lady at Stella Fiore that wasn’t like that. Most girls there were just interested in looking at themselves in a mirror or going out and buying the most expensive item at Prada. Not Eve though, she wasn’t exactly like the others. Sure, she loved to shop but, anything nice would simply do it. After eleven years she still wasn’t used to being a rich lady at Stella Fiore Academy.
As she stood by one of the many fountains at Parco Forlanini only a few important thoughts crossed her mind. One was that it was her step-mother’s birthday next Saturday and she was probably expecting something very lovely from her only step-daughter. Two, that it was getting dark and it was most improper for a lady to be out at night without her butler. And that final word led to the final thought. She was getting a butler. It was an exciting thought but there were still so many things that could go wrong with the event. What if he didn’t like her? Her father had convinced her that it was impossible not to like her but sometimes that wasn’t quite true. Back in Australia she had quite a few enemies but, perhaps none of them even remembered her. It had been a long time since she was there. And five year olds were very temperamental.
Drawing herself up she slipped her pink high-heeled sandals back onto her feet and took in a deep breath. Time to start the walk back to the Academy. Making her way back onto the pathway a breeze blew and ruffled her white bubble dress. It was a simple design with pink and purple flowers on the hem, just before it curls up for the bubble effect. The spaghetti straps joined onto the actual dress with a small pink flower. As she moved the dress swished and swayed with her, making Evangeline feel quite elegant at times.
As she moved through the park she watched as a man who looked at least two years older than her collapse onto a bench. Giving a small squeal she rushed over just in time to hear him mumble something to himself. Sitting down on the bench beside the man she looked over at him with a worried expression. “Oh sir, are you okay?” she asked, her voice soft and generally concerned. He was holding a sort of cane in his hand and it looked as though there was something wrong with his knee. Shaking her head she remembered that she was supposed to be a proper lady. “Forgive me sir. My name’s Evangeline Moretti.” Smiling she looked over at him. It didn’t seem like he was in too much pain and she hoped she was right.

Geor was sitting on the bench, rubbing his knee with his left, the long staff lying on the ground, while in his left he was still holding his only support on days like this. The old wound hurt quite a bit, but he didn't mind that. At least he knew he was alive, and he kept smiling, glancing at the blue sky. How were things back home, he wondered. His grandfather must have been thinking up various horrible training exercises, while his father was trying to calm down the old soldier. He was sure his mother would be thinking along the same lines as her father, and Geor knew he would find himself in a world of pain if he messed up. Oh well, all he had to do was not mess up.
He was awakened from his musings by the voice of a young girl. “Oh sir, are you okay?” asked the soft voice. He blinked once, to regain his senses, before turning his head towards the sound's origins. There sat a girl, looking at him with concern. She looked 16 or so, but it was hard to tell with teenage girls. She was quite cute, and he couldn't help but widen his smile a bit. “Forgive me sir. My name’s Evangeline Moretti.” she said with a smile on her lips.
Must be a student from the academy, or at least the manners fit quite well. he thought.
"I wouldn't mind if my knee hurt every day, if I get to meet such a lovely lady." muttered Geor, playfully, before finally responding. "Ah, where are my manners. I'm Geor Wolf. Nice to meet you, miss. Thank you or the concern, but it's nothing serious, just an old wound. It' not too serious, just a bit annoying." responded the boy, before he remembered something. Or more like, he remembered that he forgot something important. What was that... He did his training, he finished everything for tomorrow. What could it be... Then it came to him. The name of his lady was supposed to be Evangeline Rose Moretti. It was only a coincidence, right? The name was the same, but she didn't have that snobbish air about her like most of the ladies at school.
The girl in white dress with purple and pink flowers, sure looked like a lady, with the manners and all. Suddenly he had an idea. Slowly, he stood up, and offered her a hand.
"May I accompany you for a walk, miss Moretti? I was on my way back to the Stella Fiore dorms when I had to sit down. I'm a butler, and I'm supposed to get ready for my assignment, but I'm just too nervous, and walking around the park is much more fun." said Geor, but he remembered he was supposed to be well mannered, and quickly apologized "Ah, I shouldn't be talking so much about my problems, my apologies." finished the young man, laughing nervously, with a grin plastered on his face.

Looking up at the man a wide grin spread across her features. He was certainly handsome and the way he held himself was almost like the soldiers she had seen on television as a young girl. For some reason she had a small weakness for men with weapons. As dangerous as that might sound she knew very well that a man would never harm a lady, especially a lady of Stella Fiore. To do that was just asking for trouble. However no man she had ever met had actually been that stupid. Most soldiers would take the opportunity to flirt with young ladies. Of course, Evangeline was mostly too clueless to see that.
Smiling at what the man said she let out a small laugh. As he said his name Eve couldn’t help but let out a small gasp. She had heard that name somewhere before but couldn’t remember exactly where. Geor Wolf. A puzzled look crossed her face as she plucked her brain for an answer. Only a few seconds after it finally hit her. Geor Wolf had been assigned to her. Thinking back to that day in the kitchen she remembered her father telling her that she had finally been assigned a butler by the name of Geor Wolf. He then continued to ramble on about his family and all the rules of having a butler. But she had zoned out after hearing the name. That meant that now she actually knew nothing about her butler which meant that she could get to know him in the traditional way. That was much more preferable to her; she hated already knowing so much about someone before meeting them. It just makes you look like a stalker.
It seemed as though he did not yet know about who she was to him so Evangeline decided to play along with it. Smiling she took his hand but glanced quickly down at his knee. “You sure you’ll be alright?” she asked him before standing up herself. “That’s fine,” she grinned. “I really don’t mind at all.” In truth he didn’t make her feel uncomfortable in the least. He wasn’t like the men who just sat there and flirted with innocent young ladies before leaving them for prettier and younger girls. He made her feel like she actually mattered which was something that none of the girls at the Academy seemed to be able to do.
Fitting in was a big thing at Stella Fiore and if you didn’t fit in you were simply an outcast. Only there because your family was wealthy and you didn’t really deserve it. Of course Evangeline wasn’t one of those outcasts. She was her father’s daughter and she fit right in, there were just some things that she tended to keep hidden from the other girls there. Most had no idea she used to live in Australia. Everyone just thought that she had gone to live with her father by choice and not because her mother had abandoned her at the age of five. It wasn’t really her mother’s fault though, she had been ill for a very long time.
Shaking her head she shut her eyes and tried not to think of that. Feeling her cheeks become hot she opened her eyes and looked up at Geor. “Sorry, zoned out there. But maybe we should walk around the park a bit first. I really don’t feel like going back to the Academy just yet.” Smiling up at him she held onto his hand just a little longer than a lady was meant to. Dropping it she flushed and the started walking in the opposite direction to the way she had come. The evening was still young and now that she had her butler with her it was even younger. That meant they could take the long way home without anyone really caring.

As the girl accepted his hand, Geor helped her up. It made him feel strange, a feeling of apprehension maybe. He hoped his lady would be at least somewhat like the young girl in front of him. She was kind and treated him like an equal, even if he was a simple butler, not a rich noble. He grabbed his staff with his left hand, trying to hold both the weapon and his cane in one hand and he was failing miserably, thus he simply set it back down. Hopefully someone would find it useful, and thus his work wouldn't be for nothing. Then he stood up straight, and his height became evident. Standing alone in a field didn't give people anything to compare with him, but the with Evangeline there, it was another question. Even Geor was surprised by the difference. He never had anyone to compare himself to, except boys his age, and that was not all that much.
He stood at 6'1", which was quite strange in Italy, thus it gave away his foreign blood immediately. His eyes, that were threatening pits of malice at first glance. His messy hair only strengthened his intimidating appearance, and his wide back didn't help a bit. If you didn't pay him a second glance, he was a dark giant, standing there with a deadly elegance, not unlike that of a feral beast. His posture was a product of his training with the old Japanese soldier, named Yamamoto Kurokaze, his grandfather. The man trained him relentlessly, always demanding more, always pushing him harder. Geor often thought about giving up, but in the end his pride made him continue. He wouldn't run away from such a challenge. He preserved, and mastered his favored style almost completely, becoming an excellent fighter. He believed a butler was not a simple servant, but a bodyguard of his lady as well. He would protect the girl assigned to him, he swore the very day he came to Milan.
If you did look him over more carefully, you must have noticed the cheerful glint of his ever smiling eyes, and the smirk gracing his lips. These small gestures immediately changed his whole image. The intimidating giant was gone, and it was replaced by the gentle guardian. The dark eyes became soothing brown orb, like the very earth you stood on. The tall and muscular body, once that of a malicious giant, became a shield you could hide behind. The deadly grace of a beast was gone, and all that remained was the unyielding statue of a knight, a guardian.
Geor was a man of honor. He was only 7, when he learned the meaning of honor and chivalry from his British grandfather. One of his friends was being beaten up, and he stood up for him. As a result he was beaten up instead of the poor boy, and he was found sulking at the playgrounds by the kind old man. He bought him a cone of ice cream, and asked him what happened. The young boy told him hesitantly, expecting the man to scold him for joining a fight, but instead the man smiled at him, and declaring how proud he was. He took him home, and taught him the meaning of honor, and the concept of chivalry. The 7-year-old boy was not entirely sure what those things meant, but he promised himself he wound find out sooner or later. A few weeks later he started training with Yamamoto and in 2 years time he became the strongest kid at school. He would protect other kids from the bullies, beating them when they tried anything, and he was often found in detention.Whenever that happened, he would recite the words of the kind old man, and his rage would disappear, knowing he did the right thing.
He heard her ask him to walk with her in the park a bit longer, and with a mock salute he answered her, in his ever cheerful voice, with a sharp 'Yes m'lady!'. He noticed how she held his hand, and he decided to do something about it, offering her his arm, like a gentleman was supposed to. The word Academy confirmed his suspicions about her being a Lady at Stella Fiore, but he decided things would work out just fine if he didn't interfere, so he didn't ask her about it.
They walked through the park, but after a moment Geor broke the silence. So, miss Moretti, how do you like the academy? I can't help but pity half of the students, as they are way too serious. How about you, m'lady? asked Geor with a kind smile. For the time being, he was pretty content with walking with the girl in a park. It was kind of strange, as it was almost like a date, but he set the thought aside. He was but a mere butler, while she was the daughter of some wealthy man.

A small smile crept onto Evangeline’s face as she took Geor’s arm. It was then that she noticed he was extremely tall. He was at least a foot taller than her, maybe more. It was quite obvious that his blood wasn’t pure Italian. It was very rare to find an Italian quite as tall as that. She herself was only half Italian. Her father was Italian but her mother was Australian. She had met her father when he was on a business trip but sadly their marriage hadn’t gone so well. And after five years she had found herself in Milan, living with her father and his new wife. Her step-mother wasn’t at all like any of the evil ones in fairytales; she was actually nice to her.
Finally Geor broke the silence with a small question. Looking up at him she thought of what to say. “The Academy’s great. However when I lived in Australia with my mother I really didn’t imagine myself attending a school like that,” it was weird telling him about her past after only having met him a few minutes ago. Normally she didn’t start by telling everyone that she used to live in Australia. At his next comment she couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re quite right, everyone is very serious. Sometimes I think the teacher and parents put way too much pressure on everyone. But I just try my hardest and accept what I get.” Raising her eyebrows she grinned up at him.
It was starting to get darker but she still really didn’t want to go back. A light breeze blew and she instantly regretted not bringing a cardigan with her. She shivered slightly but she hoped Geor didn’t notice. She didn’t particularly like cold weather all that much. She preferred summer when it was warm and you could head down to the beach, not that there were many beaches where they were. Winter and autumn just seemed to get to her sometimes; being outside in the cold wasn’t too fun at all. There was that and winter fashion was not nearly as good as summer fashion. In winter you always had to cover up completely to protect yourself from the cold.
Trying to stop herself from thinking about fashion and clothes she turned her gaze to the sky. Another breeze blew, this one stronger, and it sent a large shiver through her body. Thinking of something else to say she wondered if Geor had figured it out yet. Smiling she decided to continue with the little game. “I should really be getting back but at the same time I really don’t want to. You see, I’ve been assigned a butler and I’m supposed to be meeting him this evening.” Grinning she decided to wait and let Geor say it first. She didn’t want to be the one to state who they really were to each other. And besides, she didn’t even know if he had worked it out yet.

As they walked through the park, Geor couldn't help but remember his homeland. While the mainland's forest were almost completely wiped out in order to build ships, the Irish isle had beautiful, almost emerald green forests. The tension between the Irish people and the British was still noticeable, he cared not. It was not his problem, and he would not take a side in such an affair, as he couldn't tell who was right. Then he noticed a huge oak, and pictures of their home flashed before his eyes. How he would climb the tree in the backyard, while his mother would beg him to climb down. He was always told he would break a leg if he kept doing that. Ironically he really did break his leg, while trying to climb all the way to the top. He slipped, and a few seconds later he was lying on the ground, moaning in pain, as his knee was bent in an unnatural angle.
He realized that he has been staring at the tree for a few seconds, and he blinked twice, before shaking his head. Evangeline's reply surprised him, but it was a pleasant surprise. His grin grew wider, into a broad smile, as he started chuckling, before it became full blown laughter. He stopped a few minutes later, and turned to the girl to reply, when he noticed her shiver. It wasn't all that cold in his opinion, but he was used to bad weather. Back home it rained almost every day, and over the years he got used to it, so it didn't really bother him. Then he reminded himself how she used to live in Australia. The weather over there was surely nicer. He withdrew his arm for a moment and took off his jacket. It wasn't all that warm, but it was certainly thicker than her dress, and without a word draped it over the girl's shoulder just as she told him about her getting a butler.
It didn't take longer than a second for all those things to settle in. He was quite clever, even if he was lazy, so he could put everything together. The young girl standing on his right was none other than his new Lady, Evangeline Rose Moretti. It wasn't all that surprising to him. She told him her name, and that she was a student at Stella Fiore. She was walking alone, and it was quite rare for a lady to walk around without butler, which meant she probably had not butler at the moment. Deep down he kind of knew about all this, but he chose to ignore all this. After all, things always worked out, there was no need for him to rush things. And walking around without a care was certainly fun.
"I already pity the poor guy... It will be hard for him to show up on time, given he is all dirty after spending such a long time training in the park." said Geor with a grin, before opening his moth once more.
"Wouldn't you agree, m'lady?" finished Geor, as his grin turned into a friendly smile.

Smiling as Geor placed his jacket around her she sighed at the sudden warmth. The jacket wasn’t that thick but it would do until they got back to the academy. At the same time she still didn’t feel like going back there just yet. She wanted to stay in that spot forever so neither of them would actually have to face the reality of what was to come. The fact that Geor was her butler meant that a whole lot of rules were about to take place. But it wouldn’t be true until they got back to Stella Fiore and actually accepted what was happening to both of them. And hopefully that wouldn’t be for a while yet.
Looking up at the tall man as he spoke she let a small laugh escape her lips. It was funny playing this little game and she knew Geor had figured it out. Being the girl she was she just loved to play games. It didn’t matter whether it involved a board or a deck of cards, just as long as it was a game. Her cheerful attitude was what made her tolerance for childish games possible and apparently her new butler was the same. It was good that they got along now as that had been her first worry that morning when she had found out about it. Her father had insisted that she meet him later on that evening and there was something about dinner too but she had tuned out after that.
Nodding her smile quickly grew and spread across her face. “Why yes but, I’m sure after all that training he would be very fit to protect a young lady like me. Who wouldn’t want a butler like that, right Geor?” What she said was completely true. All the girls at the academy seemed to want their butlers to be perfect. They spent nearly all their time comparing their butlers with other lady’s butlers. It really was quite immature and annoying. However Evangeline had always played along, pretending to actually like that kind of conversational topic. But in her head she was imagining what her butler would be like.
After coming to Italy and learning that eventually she would get a butler she hadn’t let it completely sink in. She always knew that she would want someone who was kind and cheerful. Not someone who just sat around and stared at their own reflection all day. For some reason although Geor wasn’t quite the perfect fit she still didn’t care. She knew that there was no perfect butler out there and so she would always just have to settle for what she got, and what she had right there was perfect enough. Walking through the park that day she felt like she didn’t have to pretend to be one of those prissy and up-themselves girls. With Geor she could just be herself and no one would judge her. At least, that’s what she thought. She didn’t want to go back to the academy just yet; she was doing just fine walking along with her butler. And really, who cares what the other girls thought of him? All that mattered was that he was a good butler and probably a lot kinder than any of the others you saw running around after their ladies. After all, he had given her his jacket and he was playing along with her little game, wasn’t he?

Geor chuckled at her response. It looked like his lady liked messing around as well, and she responded without missing a beat. For a second a voice told him he should take things more seriously, but soon the offending voice was overwhelmed by the ones telling him to enjoy life to its fullest. Then, he decided to make take it up a level, before he answered.
"Ah, I'm sure such a butler's be quite popular, but I'm not sure he is all that great. I'm sure he is a tardy delinquent, for he spends time sharpening his fighting skills, rather than his mind. For all we know, he might be a wolf in a sheep's clothing." said the man, with a mischievous smile.
He used to play tabletop role-playing games a lot before he was sent to Milan, and thus he wasn't all that bad at acting. That, coupled with his nature made a most entertaining mixture. At times he would act all serious, and when got everyone to believe whatever nonsense he was spouting, or when he couldn't keep the act up any longer, he would laugh for minutes, while those around him would often try to kill him for his annoying jokes. When told to buzz off, he would often put on an offended act, making his friends laugh, and the offender confused. At times he got over dramatic, but exaggeration made such jokes even better. At least he hoped they did, for back in Britain, he was well known for his carefree attitude, and his jokes.
The day he arrived to Stella Fiore, he accidentally bumped into a balding man while walking around in the park. The man looked to be in his late forties, and he started ranting how young people these days acted like hey owned the world. Geor immediately saw the chance to embarrass the poor guy, and started apologizing over and over, acting all meek. He even forced a single drop of tear from his eyes, and that was it. The poor man could do nothing, but apologize Geor for being so aggressive, and even gave him a tour of the park. By the end of the day Geor was pretty sure he saw every single part of the park, yet he couldn't remember all that much.
At the time, he was pretty sure he wouldn't be able to have too much fun here. While he was prepared to work hard, and become a good butler, he felt some remorse, as he was supposed to be more serious. He thought he would get and annoyingly serious lady, ordering him around to do stupid things, but he got lucky once again. His lady turned out to be a nice person. Not only was she kind of cute, but it turned out she liked having fun quite a bit. All this only proved him right. Things would turn out all right, if you did what you could.
So far things were going quite good for him, and he wondered if this would continue after he became her butler officially.
'Nah, I shouldn't think so much. I'm sure it will be all good. But I might have to act serious once in a while... what a bother.'
«Note: Have a nice trip, m'lady. ^^»

Grinning at Geor’s response the lady let out a small laugh and then looked up at the sky. There weren’t that many clouds that evening but the ones that were there looked so soft and calm. They simply floated across the sky so freely, without anyone to tell them what they can and can’t do. It would be amazing to be that free, to not have a care in the world. But this was Milan and there were so many rules. When she had first arrived at Stella Fiore Academy the headmaster had given her a large book of rules. But it wasn’t just large, it was enormous. How anyone could actually remember all of those rules was a mystery and some of the rules were really just people being overprotective of their children. And the lady and butler rules were a lot thicker. Who knew it could be so hard to have a butler?
“Yes well, all the ladies at Stella Fiore want perfect butlers,” she started, trying hard not to laugh. “And I’m sure he’s not all that tardy. And if he spends all his time on his fighting skills that would make him a worthy butler. Good for protection if nothing else.” Evangeline covered her mouth and tried to disguise the laughter with a cough. “But you are quite right; he might just be a wolf. But perhaps he’s the good kind of wolf.” Still trying incredibly hard not to laugh the young girl regretted quitting acting classes when she had moved here. When she was younger she used to be a very good actor but apparently all that had just gone down the drain over the last few years. Her stepmother had offered a few times to send her to a drama class but she had refused politely. She just wasn’t into drama as much anymore for reasons even she did not know. It was probably because her mother had been the one to get her excited about acting and when she had gone so did Eve’s love for acting.
Another gust of wind blew and Evangeline drew Geor’s jacket around her tighter. The sun was starting to disappear behind the horizon and the sky had turned a beautiful shade of orange. There was also some pink mixed in with it and there were a few stars already out. It was a gorgeous sunset and anyone standing nearby would think this was a date. However they would beg to differ. It wasn’t a date; it was just two people walking through the park about to meet what fate had in store for them. This happened to be a huge book full of rules. But that would come later, for now they could walk in peace. They didn’t have to accept what was coming until they were back inside the walls of Stella Fiore and that, hopefully, wouldn’t be for a while yet.
