You've Got Your Mother In a Whirl
[/size]It was bright and sunny out, but it was misleading. It was bitterly cold and the wind had a habit of blowing a powerful gust in his face when he least expected it. Not that he ever really anticipated getting whipped in the face by the elements, because that would be a little odd. He got distracted easily, but if he spent his entire life wondering what exactly Mother Nature would do next, he'd be even more screwed up than he already was, and he couldn't afford any more insanity. Anansi was wearing a jacket for once, instead of prancing around in a t-shirt all day. He pulled his black jacket tighter around him, in hopes that it would protect him from the cold. It didn't. Instead of returning home to a heated room, he marched on. He hadn't the slightest where he was headed, or even how long he'd keep wandering. He figured as long as he stayed on the sidewalk and walked in one direction he'd be safe. He wasn't new to Italy, but he was fairly new to the part of the city he was walking in, and didn't want to get lost.
Anansi idly kicked a loose piece of pavement that was laying on the sidewalk, watching it go flying down the path. He shoved his hands in his pockets, silently wondering if anyone would notice his horrible cliche. He continued walking past stores and cars and the occasional parking meter, taking time to kick at any pieces of gravel or dirt clods he could find. If he got really lucky, he'd find a crushed up can which made him feel a lot more satisfied when he kicked it. It made more noise too. Soon enough, Anansi wasn't even bothering to wonder where he was going, and focused solely on things he could kick. He was having a competition with himself to see how far he could send things flying. He was getting better and better as he practiced, and when he saw the chunk of brick laying innocently by the side of an old building, he knew he had to take the opportunity.
Anansi took a step back, swung his foot back, and let loose. He had aimed perfectly, so he knew he wouldn't miss. When his foot made contact with the red piece of brick, he knew it would be the best kick he had ever....kicked. He watched it soar up into the air into a beautiful arch. He watched it come down, picking up speed as it did so. He watched it land. In a window.
The shattering glass was alarmingly loud, and Anansi froze where he stood. The building looked new too, the windows were probably just put in within the last month or two. He scanned the front of the building to see what damage he had done. An insurance agency. Well, wasn't that just his luck. He took a few nervous steps backwards, hoping no one would notice. It was the first story window, but he didn't think anyone would have gotten hurt, it didn't seem like anyone was in there. It was too early for people to be working there, right? Right?
