living with this
It was going to be another one of those days where everything went wrong; he got that feeling when he sat up in his bed early this morning after his shift at the bar, finding himself in a bad mood already. It wasn't the best day at the shop, either. He could really go for a drink or chill with one of his newfound friends. Speaking of which, he saw trouble coming his way before they even realized what they were going to do.
Kyou scoffed lightly at the gang of thugs who haughtily wandered over to him. It wasn't anything he couldn't handle and maybe smashing some faces would lighten his mood. He only really flipped when the leader taunted him about someone he'd met only just a few days before and that totally crossed the line; Kyou was the first to throw a punch and landing it right on the guy's nose, the other three men quickly hopped on him.
Needless to say it was a nasty fight, blood was drawn but the four men were left mostly intact as the scampered off with their tails between their legs, leaving a beaten and bloody Kyou leaning against one of the shop's walls panting. He wasn't going to look too hot tomorrow, but he was feeling better after getting the rage out. He slid down the wall and just decided to sit there for a little while, wiping at his bloody nose with his shirt sleeve. Yea, great day, right? He scoffed again at what had happened, turning his pretty blues down to the sidewalk.

Audrey on the other hand was having a great day. He usually always did, having usually always been a pretty cheerful person. Lately he'd been a lot chipper though, his eyes glimmering more and his smile as big as ever. The sun had already set when the blonde left the small shop, grasping onto two brown bags as he set out for his apartment. The boy's mind wandered constantly on the way, wondering when he'd be able to see Kyou again, remembering the day they first met. 'This is ridiculous. I shouldn't be thinking about him every second of the day,' Audrey told himself scoldingly.
But he figured it was exceptional this time since it'd been a while since he had a friend. Subconsciously, the boy held tighter onto the bags in his hands as he sighed, turning to round the corner until a mess of familiar dark hair caught his attention. Audrey had to double take as he stopped in his tracks, the splotches of red all over Kyou having thrown him off completely. His thin eyebrows furrowed in extreme worriment as his grip loosened from the bags, and they fell to the ground before he rushed over. The blonde was so shocked; Kyou had looked fine the other day.
"Kyou! Are you okay?" His voice quivered as he asked. Audrey lowered himself to the ground beside the other, leaving a decent amount of space between them as he examined his wounds and bruises. "What happened to you?" He almost looked like he wanted to cry. Surrender to nothing
His luck just kept getting better and better; it wasn't that he didn't want to see little Audrey at this point, he just didn't want the kid to see him the way he was. He would skimp on the details of what caused the fight, not wanting the blonde to feel bad that Kyou got in a fight over some punks bad mouthing him. It happened a lot and he never did tell his friends he got in fights over them. He couldn't help it; Kyou just couldn't stand people be douches to his buddies, whether they were there to hear or not.
"Audrey," he said with a slightly surprised tone, looking up at the boy while trying to clean up his face some more so he looked at least somewhat decent, What're you doing here? Dumb question, of course, but he couldn't stop it from coming out. Had he showed up earlier he would've seen the fight and that would've been bad.
Kyou held back a slight cough with some discomfort, nodding his head to the concerned question. Kyou felt horrid about the expression on Audrey's face and quickly tried to dispel any major worries. I'm fine, just got a little roughed up is all. He'd had worse than this, sadly, but put on a fake smile to help the kid relax some. He worried about his friends but he didn't want them worrying over him, what with him constantly getting into fights over just about nothing. The man waved a hand at Audrey nonchalantly before pulling himself up off the sidewalk, I'm fine, really.

The blonde was surprised to realize that Kyou was still handsome with cuts and wounds all over him. He managed to not look as sad as before, instead just worried. Kyou was certainly acting very casual about the whole situation it was hard to believe it was merely a show. Maybe he really was fine? He watched the other stand before pulling himself up as well, looking uncertain at first then pulling on a sad smile. "If you say so..." He didn't want to dwell on the topic and get Kyou angry or something.
Audrey went over to the bags that he dropped earlier, glad he didn't buy anything that was easily breakable. "I was on my way back home from the grocery store." He lifted them into his grasp and turned back to the older male, his unsure look returning. "I want you to come with me, so I can patch up those cuts and bruises. It'll be quick. And I can cook something for us after." Audrey smiled a more sincere smile. "What're you in the mood for?" He started slowly past the other, watching him expectantly and hoping he would follow. I used to long for time alone
Kyou was glad it didn't take any more convincing to get Audrey to calm down some more. He seemed oddly calm himself but he couldn't have been any more used to this at this point. He'd just be battered and bruised for a little while, not anything he couldn't handle already. He brushed himself off casually, noting rips in his shirt and pants that made him unhappy; this was a good shirt, too. The man let out a slight unhappy groan at it but otherwise stayed pretty quiet before looking to Audrey when he answered his first question.
Of course the older man didn't argue with his younger friend's wishes. Besides he knew he'd probably need the help with his wounds, whether it was dressing them or just putting ice on them, he had plenty to go around. "Mm... anything is fine," he finally replied to the question; he wasn't picky and didn't feel comfortable ordering something specific from Audrey. "I have plenty of time before my shift, though, so there isn't a rush." He didn't want the kid feeling like he had ten minutes to help Kyou fix himself up and cook them a meal or anything.
He followed his friend when Audrey headed passed him a little, feeling a little stupid with the limp he had in his leg, but there really wasn't a way to hide that. So he was a little more hurt than he originally thought, but he certainly wasn't acting like it. He just hoped he wasn't going to be too much of a bother but wasn't insecure enough to bother asking, because he knew if he was going to be troublesome the young man wouldn't have asked to help and cook him a meal, now would he?

Fortunately, his place was very near so Kyou didn't have to limp for long. The blonde had picked up on it quickly but didn't say anything, a trace of a pout on his lips instead when he realized his condition was probably a lot worse than he made it seem. At the mention of work, Audrey couldn't help but glance over to the other. "You can't go to work looking like that," he said with a gentle shake of his head. "Can't you call off today?" Besides, they might've had to take him to the hospital just in case something was really wrong with that leg.
Reaching the small apartment complex, the blonde led them both to the second floor and over to room 292. He easily juggled with the grocery bags and his keys, unlocking the door and leading Kyou inside the warm, cozy space. The walls were a soft pearl white and the furniture of neutral colors, not too many or too few pieces which left the perfect amount of space to move around. Around the corner was a bathroom and two bedrooms, but for now they remained in the living room area.
"Go ahead and sit somewhere, I'll be back." The bags were set down on the table before Audrey went to grab bandages, alcohol, and anymore necessary equipment that came in a first-aid box. He set them on the floor wherever Kyou decided to rest then went to fix up a bag of ice. His head most likely suffered enough damage for it. "Here." He placed it gently on the other's head full of hair, holding it there briefly as he went to sit on the chair's arm.
Audrey began to examine the cuts on Kyou's features again, and the close proximity would've made him blush if he wasn't so focused on them. His eyes shifted downward to the rips and cuts in his clothing, indicating where other wounds had been. The boy's eyes gleamed with excessive worry once again. "Kyou, how come you're so calm about this?" It was unbelievable how he'd gone about the situation as if it were nothing, as if... he'd gone through it many times before. I won't suffer, be broken
If the walk had been any longer his leg surely would've buckled and gave out under him. And that would've been embarrassing for his dignity, which he had onto white-knuckled at this point. But with it firmly within his grasp he relaxed as much as a pained person possibly could. He shook his head somewhat defiantly at the blonde-headed boy; at this point he didn't think he'd be going to the hospital and he wouldn't call in to work for anything, really... unless it was incredibly important, like running out to save a friend. Which was possibly the only reason he'd take a sick day. "No, I'll be fine once I rest a little." Though he wasn't too sure how he'd be able to stand on that leg of his during his long shift, but he'd manage just like he always did.
The young boy's home was certainly different from his own darkly-colored living space. He guessed it suited Audrey's sweet personality just perfectly. Though he wasn't sure if he'd be able to sit anywhere without getting blood on Audrey's nice furniture. But alas, his leg wouldn't stand for him bearing weight on it any longer and he was forced to take a seat in a chair, sitting somewhat awkwardly on the edge of it like he was trying to minimize the amount of blood he got on it, which at this point was, thankfully, none.
The boy returned with a bag of ice and put it atop the one spot that was hurting on his head. Kyou figured his leg would need it more than a little bump on that hard head of his but kept it there for a long enough time to numb the throbbing pain down some. It was sweet that Audrey was so worried over a guy that he'd only met a few days ago; it made Kyou realize he'd made a good friend and now he'd try harder to keep him safe and happy. He stayed contently quiet at this point, not making a sound at the usually uncomfortable lack of personal space.
It wasn't until the the boy asked a somewhat awkward question; surely he wouldn't want to hear "I'm used to it" or "It happens all the time". He quickly thought up a reasonably believable response and shrugged a little, "I have a high pain tolerance," he said making reassuring eye contact with those gorgeous blues Audrey adorned. It wasn't a lie at all, really, but it was definitely a sugar-coated response to try and ease the worry that flooded his friend's young face once more. He had removed the ice pack from his head a little while ago and proceeded to put it on his knee to numb that pain a little. Kyou had looked so reassuringly into his eyes that Audrey couldn't help but to believe him. Even though, something still seemed a little off... The blonde nodded, his expression mixed with many emotions and difficult to read as he moved from the chair's armrest. Before he opened the bottle of rubbing alcohol and went to work on Kyou's wounds, he noticed how the other sat a bit awkwardly on his sofa. There was a bit of blood on his clothing and surely that was the reason why he was reluctant about touching the light colored furniture.
He stood and quickly disappeared around the corner only to return seconds later, a burgundy towel in hand. "You can sit on this instead," Audrey said as he spread out the cloth over the part Kyou didn't sit on, urging him to scoot back into a more comfortable position. The blonde settled back onto the floor to soak a small cleansing pad in alcohol, using a tweezer-like instrument to grab the end and make it easier to move around. He moved back onto the chair's armrest to better reach the taller other.
Audrey was hesitant at first, a gentle hand holding Kyou's chin in place as the other dabbed softly at the cuts and wounds on his features. His cheeks grew a soft pink and he could feel his heart pounding a lot heavier than usual against his rib cage, but he managed to stay focused. After a few long minutes the boy released him and glanced over his body again briefly, at the very obvious cuts decorating his form. Audrey slid down onto the floor again to tend to the equipment.
Soon enough he looked back up to Kyou, a very bright pink covering his cheeks now. "Could you... uhm," he paused, avoiding eye contact. How would he put this? "C-Could you remove your shirt?" Audrey had no idea why it was so embarrassing for him to say but it was. He reluctantly looked up to Kyou again and waited. He could only imagine how difficult it would be to tell him to remove his jeans. Audrey was certainly observant enough to notice Kyou's discomfort sitting oddly at the edge of the piece of furniture and was relieved when he got up and came back with a towel for him to sit on. Thankfully he wasn't bleeding badly so nothing would soak through the towel and ruin the sofa. He easily moved himself over onto the towel and seemed a bit more comfortable but he didn't relax by any means. He was still in a good bit of pain and he didn't want to lean back. Not that he really could anyways. He needed to sit up so Audrey could tend to the cuts on his face.
Kyou didn't flinch at the alcohol burning the wounds and sat there like an obedient child being tended to by his mother after falling down and... scraping his face across the road. He couldn't really say he was used to such close contact but he was chill about it for someone who didn't experience it often. He kept his mind on other things in an attempt to get his mind off the pains here and there, the awkwardness of having to keep his head still with Audrey holding onto his chin. Yea, you could say he was a little tense, still.
He did manage to relax a little more once the boy was done with his face and had to stop himself from rubbing at his cheek. He still gripped the ice pack to his knee, rather tightly but he wasn't really paying attention to that anymore. At first he couldn't help but tilt a brow in curiosity at why the blonde was suddenly pink and flustered, but that silent question was answered seconds later and he looked like he wasn't expecting that to be asked of him. Which Kyou wasn't for some odd reason. Hell if he'd take off his pants, though, that was just too awkward even for his stoic self.
The blue eyed man didn't put up much of a fight, as taking off his shirt wasn't that big a deal, really; he pulled off the ripped thing with a bit of trouble before wincing as he brought his arms back down to his sides. The problem was an uncomfortable gash on the right side of his ribs; how that got there he'd never know, but it hurt like hell. He was weird with pain sometimes; he'd hurt himself and only notice later after either hitting it again or getting something on the open wound that made it sting and burn. Kyou let out a quiet, unhappy mumble at it, looking more bothered than he had earlier.
"Do you have anything to help with the pain?" he asked with some restraint in his voice; it wasn't in incredibly apparent that he was getting irritated. Not at Audrey, of course, but being in pain made anyone angry. The extent of the wounds wouldn't get much worse than the gash on his side and his leg, the rest were cuts and bruises that would heal quickly. Count: 508

Despite the unnecessary hot feeling in his cheeks Audrey watched the other remove his shirt, noticing the slightly pained expression as he did so. The problem was quickly revealed when his bright blue eyes landed on the gash in Kyou's side. It looked pretty bad. The boy's gaze lifted from the wound as the other spoke, nodding with a faltering smile. "Yeah." He found it a little odd that the pain was bothering him so suddenly but he stood and went into the nearby kitchen anyway. Returning soon after, Audrey placed the glass of water down on the small table beside the couch along with the bottle of painkillers.
He went to settle back down on the floor beside the equipment. He would wait a bit for Kyou to down the medication before continuing on his wounds. In the meantime, Audrey's eyes moved to the carpet below and he shifted his legs out of nervousness, disliking the silence. It wasn't really awkward but they could do without it. "I know we've only known each other for a few days, but... is there something wrong with me?" His gaze was truly curious when he reluctantly looked back to the other.
Immediately after he spoke, he regretted it. Audrey's insecurities had appeared out of nowhere and unfortunately before a friend. That horrible, all-too-familiar sensation in his cheeks remained. "N-Nevermind." He shook his head, wanting desperately to dismiss the question. The boy just wasn't used to much company and seeing Kyou here, his only recent 'friend', he just had to wonder, and he finally had someone to answer the question; he was just too afraid to hear the answer.
"Are you ready?" the blonde inquired softly, changing the subject. He looked back to Kyou, his reassuring smile not very reassuring with his eyes so dull and saddened.
