Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Apparently getting lost had been one of Alicia’s daily routines. Who could blame her for getting easily distracted and completely repressing reality from her thoughts? Unfortunately for her butler, she refused to carry around a cell phone or any form of technology. This Amish-like lifestyle was currently a phase she was going through, but would in turn prolong her butler’s search. Somehow, Alicia found herself on the rooftop of the lovely cathedral known as the Duomo, she didn’t really care much for its design nor its purpose. But how on earth did she wander to such a place at a high altitude? Simple! The curious young girl followed an adorable black cat from school and completely disregarded her surroundings. Her attention was completely engrossed on the cat; she even started crawling on her brand new dress in an attempt to follow without startling the cat… What a waste!
“Nya… Nya…” She mimicked the cat, trying to get its attention, but that plan was a failure when the cat hopped on the edge of the rooftop and ignored her. Alicia frowned, deciding to stand up and observe the cat at a distance. She had an urge to pet it, befriend it, and take it back to her dorm. However, the cat was a stray and who knows where it had been before she started following it. Folding her arms over her chest, she finally decided to return to reality and scan the area. Well, she already figured the rooftop of an old cathedral would be filthy, but the view was actually very beautiful. A serene aura emanated from the majestic view of central Milan, Alicia actually felt a little relaxed where she currently stood.
Suddenly, dark clouds invaded the blue sky like the conquest of the Americas by Spain. Alicia stared at the sky and winced when a cold raindrop landed on her nose. She took a few steps back and decided that it was best to take shelter before the rain drenched her clothes. It began as a drizzle, but after a mere 3 seconds, it began to pour. What a whimsical change of climate. Alicia bit her bottom lip as she turned the knob trying to forget about the cat she was following earlier.
The wind started to pick up, thunder acknowledged its presence with its projecting voice, followed by the menacing flash of lightning. How unexpected! She hoped the cat would be safe and the storm was brief, but that was very unlikely. Alicia dashed to where she last heard the cat. “Troublesome cat…” She muttered under her breath as she searched for the cat, ignoring the fact that her clothes were getting soaked which would probably lead to her catching a cold or dying of pneumonia. Too bad she wouldn't bare to live with herself if she allowed a fragile and innocent animal die in a violent storm.

Yeah, he's bleeding stones With his machinations and his palindromes
Catching his breath with a fire burning in the back of this throat, Theophile looked about wildly. How often did he have to play this game of hide and seek with his lady, Alicia? He fully encouraged her curious mind and found it extremely enjoyable when she had questions that he could gladly answer. But her excursions into the city, following some strange wanderlust, gave her butler a hard time. His searching drew strange looks from any passing by. His frantic actions causing such a scene that passer-by generally avoided him on the sidewalks. How many times had he advised his dear lady that she should carry a cell phone? Not only so he could reach her if he needed her but in case of emergency as well.
”Oh dear…” the darkening clouds overhead would only give way to rainy skies. He had heard the forecast earlier, even warned the energetic young girl about the impending storm. Once her curious nature had taken over though, there was no stopping her. So here was her butler running in his work attire; polished black dress shoes with black suit trousers, black vest, black tie, and pressed white shirt pushing through crowds of people with an umbrella in hand.
The last place he had to check was the church and upon entering with a rush, he found that there was no sight of her. ”Is there something that you need? A man in priestly robes asked, ”You seem troubled by something. Amazingly enough, the butler found himself explaining his situation to the man, finding his troubles just seemed to pour out. ”Ohohohoho… I believe a young girl happened to go up to the roof just a short while ago. Just take the stairs over there. I’ve been meaning to go check up on her, perhaps she’s the young lady you are looking for?”
”Ah, thank you very much!” the butler bowed his head in thanks and quickly made a b-line for the stairs, bounding up two steps at a time until he found himself on the roof. Breathing heavily with a light sweat, he opened the door and stepped outside. The fresh scent of rain wafted toward him, a wonderful scent any other time. The downpour only meant that whoever was on the roof was absolutely soaked and, his lady or not, Theo was obligated to be of some service. Peering through the sheets of rain, he spotted his lady soaked to the bone .
”Lady Alicia!” he called, running over to her and opening the umbrella, ”What on earth are you doing?! You’re soaking wet!” the disdain in his voice was clear, he felt like a parent scolding their child. He felt a certain amount of responsibility to his lady, to not only serve her but guide her toward being a responsible adult. He couldn’t ignore any of her wishes, but still felt it necessary to voice his concern.

Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Several minutes had passed since she began her search for the missing cat and so far she had been unsuccessful. Alicia wrapped her arms around herself and felt her teeth chatter; she started having second thoughts about finding the cat. Just what on earth was she thinking? Unlike cats that were able to easily find shelter, a young lady like her was undoubtedly going to catch a cold or perhaps die if she stayed any longer. After convincing herself that the cat was going to be safe she turned around to run inside the cathedral. The young lady paused for a moment when she heard the cat’s cry at a distance. Was this her conscience telling her to not give up on her search? But what kind of conscience meows at you…?
Surprised by her butler’s sudden entrance, she turned her head and blinked a few times when he approached her. “What is it…?” She questioned her young butler, watching him open the umbrella and put it over her head. Unsure if he was upset or worried sick, she shrugged it off and turned her attention back to the cat’s cry. Alicia was somewhat relieved that her butler had found her and also quite overjoyed at the fact that he may be of some help to her. The search for the cat would be easier now that there were two people looking. Alicia put her right hand to her mouth and started coughing. Great, now she was getting sick, she really hoped that wouldn’t jeopardize the search or get a lecture from her butler.
“Bastian,” Alicia always called her butler by his last name, she was uncomfortable calling servants by their first name, “The storm is but a destructive sea creature ready to devour a defenseless black urchin.” A rather confusing metaphor used to explain her predicament. The black urchin was apparently the cat and she pretty much assumed the storm would be its demise. She pointed her index finger at where she last heard the cat and then looked to her butler to see if he understood what she meant. Staring at him with shifty eyes, her butler’s silence was just the answer she needed to get frustrated.
She stomped her foot on the ground and decided to start over, “Not that I care or anything! But it’s just that there’s a cat up here and I believe it is in danger.” Alicia put her hand behind her neck and glanced to her side, trying not to show any concern for cat… especially with her butler present. Theophile was taking his sweet time to respond or she was just very impatient. “If you are not going to assist me then I do not require your services. You may head to the dorm if you wish.” She said in an aggravated tone as she ran off to find the troublesome critter once again.
Eventually, the cat’s cries were getting louder as she walked closer to the edge of the rooftop. Alicia’s eyes opened wide when she noticed the cat clinging to a gargoyle, holding on for its dear life. Alicia was actually surprised that the cat was able to hold on for so long. She clenched her fists as she searched for a broom or something to reach for it. Nothing! What an inconvenient rooftop! For so much junk scattered around there was no sign of an item that would help the poor cat. There was no helping it now; she had to go after the cat herself. Alicia slowly lowered herself from the ledge and little by little her foot touched the gargoyle’s bulky surface.
Her heart raced as she sat down on the gargoyle; thankfully her petite body was just light enough to use the grotesque-looking statue as a seat. “…I’m almost there.” She muttered to herself trying not to look down and focus completely on the cat. Inclining towards the cat, she reached for it with her right arm, and tried her best to ignore the thunder's menacing voice. Just a few more inches and she would be able to grab the cat.
Success! A triumphant grin appeared across her lips as she finally grasped it by its soaked fur. The cat was going to be safe now, all she needed to do was bring it in. “C-Come on, let go…” She froze in place when the cat refused to let go of the gargoyle. Did it not trust her? Lightning flashed which caused Alicia to jerk her hand away from the cat and press her back against the wall. The cat was still on the gargoyle, but if it didn’t want her help. Its chances of survival seemed very unlikely now.
