[/b]The Irish don’t look kindly on expatriates, especially not ones with the penchant for violence and mayhem that follows the Fitzpatrick family like a death shroud. Ayden is born to two unlikely people, a postal clerk and a trained hitman, and his murderer father blames his mother for his son’s failures. But it’s not Ayden’s fault he can’t hear the screaming, watches their lips move and wonders why his Mum is crying. By the time Ayden is six he can understand words perfectly by watching, manages a few terse and awkward sounding syllables of his own. He’s learning, only takes so much before he grows up and his mother tries teaching him hand signs that will make his life all that much easier. But none of that matters on the playground, so it is to his father that Ayden goes to learn and to win. Sarah Fitzpatrick goes in a blaze of glory (a bit ironic considering it was at a post office), clutches her husband’s hand and doesn’t notice his head was all over the wall behind her.

Ayden is in the final years of schooling when he is shipped to Ireland, meets his father’s former Boss and signs his soul over for just one more look at a perfect angel. He has a horrible knight complex and doesn’t care, commits heinous sins in the name of watching her from afar. When she loses her integrity to the lustful urges of her birthright power, Ayden can only stare at the end of life as he knows it, fingers his now trademark gun and wonders if this counts as ‘honor’. When his Boss gives Ayden his angel for his own (strictly in confidence, poor girl still has to accept), he cries for a week before she agrees to the deal. Ayden had never been happier, practiced his vows until not even a shred of dissonance could be heard, wasted his life in a daze until he finally stood at the alter. He hasn’t the heart to tell her that the family is his now, the deal signed in blood and a gentleman’s oath, lets her have her way merely because he loves her.[/ul]
